George Profünd & Martyrs Of Pop PRESENT: Towards infinity and beyond The Five members of the rock band Penelope, all originally from Marseille, are fans of electronic-rock music. Their musical influence is vast and ranges from Polnareff to Pheonix, Pink Floyd to Air and Kraftwerk to Daft Punk. Penelope derives its music from the atomic age and saptial conquest of the 1960’s but alos from a mythical Spanish club of the 1970’s wich many people from the south of France are familiar with because of the easily recognizable bumper stickers on numerous cars. Penelope stands out from other competing bands due to it’s positive spirit, friendship and lack of pretention. Dominique plays the drums, Philippe the guitars, Benjamin is on the keyboards and Alain is the bassist while Fabrice, the lead singer, is at ease with guitar as well as the synthesizer. Penelope is an original cocktail wich mixes the past and the far futur. The Five friends share a love a love of vintage electronic instruments, particularly from the 60’s to the 80’s, wich gives them a sound not easily found today. Just as a traditional photograph has nothing to do with digital one or movie on a reel is different from a camcorder film, analogical instruments have their own charm. But this is not to say that the band just focused on the past. On the contrary, they let the past inspire them in order to create an up to date type of music. JJ ABrams, who created the TV series ‘LOST’ , did Star Trek, in terms of cinéma, what Penelope Manages to do with pop music ; combining past with contemporary music to make something new. Au sein de leur groupe ils baignent dans un spectre musical qui va de Polnareff à Phoenix, des Pink Floyd à Air et de Kraftwerk à Daft Punk. Penelope évoque l’age de l’atome et la conquête spatiale. C’est aussi un clin d’œil à un club mythique Espagnol des années soixante-dix que beaucoup d’habitants du sud de la France connaissent par le biais d’autocollants d’arrières de voitures. Penelope se démarque de la « concurrence » par son esprit positif, l’amitié et un refus de la prétention. Dominique joue de la batterie, Phil de la guitare, Ben des claviers, N°9 de la basse et Felps le chanteur passe de la guitare au synthé Penelope c’est un cocktail original entre hier et après-demain. Les cinq amis adorent les instruments électroniques vintage (des années soixante à quatre-vingt) car ils possèdent un grain que l’on ne retrouve plus aujourd’hui. Tout comme une photo argentique n’est pas une photo numérique, ou un film sur pellicule n’est pas un film video, les instruments analogiques ont leur charme propre. Ce qui ne veut pas dire que le groupe est passéiste, au contraire, il aime puiser dans le passé pour créer la musique d’aujourd’hui. J.J Abrams (créateur de la série « Lost ») a réalisé avec Star Trek en matière de cinéma, ce que Penelope parvient à obtenir avec la musique pop, c’est à dire prendre une formule du passé et la moderniser.
